Patients are changing how they search for health information. Increasingly, they’re turning not only to Google, but also to AI-powered tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and other conversational platforms to answer questions about root canals.
To help ensure patients find accurate, evidence-based information—and to position the AAE as the trusted voice in those conversations—we’ve launched a series of new and enhanced patient webpages on aae.org/patients. These updates are part of a broader strategy to improve the visibility of authoritative endodontic information in both traditional search results and AI-generated responses while directly addressing persistent myths and misinformation about root canal treatment.

The following resources are now live:
- Root Canal Explained – A comprehensive, patient-friendly overview of root canal treatment, including answers to frequently asked questions.
- Root Canal Myths – An expanded hub addressing common misconceptions about endodontic treatment.
- Do Root Canals Cause Cancer? – A dedicated, evidence-based resource addressing one of the most persistent myths patients encounter online.
- Root Canal Pain – Explains what patients can expect before, during and after treatment.
- Root Canal Cost – Answers common questions about treatment costs, insurance and the value of saving a natural tooth.
- Root Canal vs. Dental Implant – A balanced comparison to help patients understand when each treatment option may be appropriate.
- Whole-Body Benefits of Saving Your Natural Teeth – Enhanced navigation and structured content to improve discoverability.
These pages are interconnected and optimized to answer the questions patients ask most frequently—from pain and cost to treatment safety and long-term outcomes. They also include enhanced page structure and schema markup to improve visibility in search engines and AI-generated answers.
Our research found that misinformation surrounding root canals continues to focus on topics such as pain, cancer, longevity and implants. At the same time, public search behavior is evolving, with more people seeking health information through AI-powered tools rather than traditional search engines.
By creating clear, evidence-based content that answers these questions directly, the AAE is helping ensure patients receive trustworthy information wherever they search—while reinforcing the value of endodontic care and the expertise of endodontists. As our AI optimization strategy has shown, high-quality, structured content is increasingly important for ensuring the AAE remains a trusted source in the next generation of online search.

Together, we can ensure more patients receive factual, science-based information about saving their natural teeth. Explore the new patient resources at: aae.org/patients.
We encourage you to:
- Share these pages with patients before and after treatment.
- Use them when responding to questions about root canal therapy, pain, costs or common myths.
- Link to these resources from your practice website and social media channels to help patients access reliable information.
